The Ghana Commercial Bank Limited has opened its first polytechnic branch at the Ho Polytechnic with a pledge to fulfilling the banking needs of all tertiary institutions across the entire country.
Delivering an address to formally open the Bank on Monday July 27, 2009 the General Manager in charge of the Retail Banking Division Ms. Joyce Atta-Krah, said that management of the Bank had been very sensitive towards the banking needs of tertiary institutions in Ghana and had pledged that wherever there is a need to bring banking services to institutions like that, they would not hesitate to do so.
The Ho Polytechnic branch of the bank brings to 151, the number of GCB’ branches and 11 agencies in the country.
The branch, apart from providing banking convenience for the Polytechnic, is also expected to serve the catchment area of Ho-Ahoe and the Mawuli estates as well as customers from the Adaklu areas.
Ms. Atta-Krah said that for sometime now, some transformation had been going on at the bank with special focus on customer service with the aim of providing excellent customer satisfaction to GCB’sclients.
The Ho-Zone Area Manager of the GCB, Mr. J.S. Acolatse said the new branch adds up to three, the number of branches of the bank in Ho and hinted of plans to build another permanent branch of the bank on the Ho Polytechnic campus if land was made available.
He said that negotiations for the opening of the branch had started back in 2006 under the former rector of the school, Dr. Afeti and expressed joy that it had finally materialized under the current rector Dr. Dzisi.
The opening of the branch, he said, was in line with the bank’s objective of bringing services to the doorsteps of all Ghanaians irrespective of area of residence.
“It will also lessen the burden of the school, students, lecturers and residents of Mawuli School, Mawuli Estate and other nearby communities in transacting banking business. It will also take off some of the load on the Ho branch”, he intimated.
Ho Polytechnic, he noted, is the first polytechnic in the country that will have branch of GCB located on its campus and also the first polytechnic beneficiary of the SMARTPAY product introduced by the bank last year for the Public Universities. The Smartpay enables students to make payments to their institutions and these payments immediately reflect on the screen of the schools’ Accounts Department.
The vice rector of the Polytechnic, Mr. Edward Ayimey expressed joy at the investment the bank had made at the school which he observed would ease the banking burden on all stakeholders of the polytechnic.
He also gave the assurance that the school was prepared to give the bank land for any future development.
